It's slowly turning to autumn here in Northern California. Soon it will be my favorite holiday... Thanksgiving. I love it because it's a day with family and delicious food that doesn't require presents (weird for a retailer to write... right? True though).
Despite my happiness, I am often stricken sober by the fact of all the people living without... it seems like more now than ever. People that have fallen through a crack that should not exist in a country such as ours...people without food, shelter or support. I see more and more people living on the streets... it's rather incredible when there is such wealth surrounding this Bay Area and in our own town.
There is a ray of light in this message, and it's an organization right here in our smallish town, Calvary Church's House of Hope, that provides a pantry filled with non-perishable food. Every Saturday between 9:30am and 12:00pm, it is open and free for guests that require the support.
In years past, we have held food and toy drives for county programs, which are incredible organizations, and we will continue to support their efforts. However, this year, we will launch the holiday season by supporting the House of Hope because it's local, and it serves our local people. Beginning immediately, for every can of non-perishable food you donate to our food drive for the House of Hope, you will receive a raffle ticket toward a $250 shopping spree.. There is no limit and no purchase required. So please donate your non-perishable goods now so that we can stock the House of Hope's Pantry all year long!
